TAMPA — TheIncLab, a tech company that specializes in data visualization and artificial intelligence, has moved into Ybor City’s historic El Pasaje building, a property listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Located at the corner of 14th Street and Palm Avenue, the two-story brick building, built in 1886, has a colorful history: Over the years, it’s been a hotel; housed several bars, restaurants and speakeasies; and served as a military recruiting station, as well as a newspaper office. Most recently, according to a news release, it was repurposed as an innovation lab by SOFWERX, a defense innovation ecosystem that facilitates public-private collaboration. SOFWERX has since vacated the space, allowing TheIncLab, which relocated to Tampa in early 2020, to occupy it.
TheIncLab had been in a 400-square-foot space at The Undercroft, also in Ybor City. In the release, the company says a larger headquarters will allow it to create 40 additional jobs.
“We are proud to occupy this historic space and continue the tradition of fostering spaces for innovation and collaboration in Ybor City,” TheIncLab CEO Adriana Avakian states in the release. “We are pleased to provide world-class data visualization and artificial intelligence support to defense and commercial efforts where it’s needed most. We are the first AI + X lab and one of the most unique in the country, and we hope to lead the way in artificial intelligence and data visualization capabilities in Tampa and in the United States.”
The company joins a growing list of tech firms that have recently moved to the Tampa Bay area, including Drift, OPSWAT and Fast.
“TIL’s expansion in Tampa is further proof that our city has the highly skilled talent and supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem tech founders need to build and grow successful companies,” Tampa Mayor Jane Castor states in the release. “We’re thrilled to see TIL growing in Tampa and finding a new home in one of Ybor City’s most storied historic buildings.”
