Florida leads the way in vacant — and vacation — homes

More than 60% of homes in Fort Myers Beach, Siesta Key, are empty.

The residential real estate market in Florida is anything but empty, given the current boom in sales and price appreciation. The same can’t be said for the status of homes in some cities statewide, where, according to a new study analyzing U.S. Census data, Florida is a national leader in vacant homes.
