The exact details are still being finalized, but the nonprofit is expecting the project to be done by the end of 2025.
A new hospital is expected to open in Manatee County, but it’s still a few years out.
BayCare Health System plans to open the new location north of the Manatee River by the end of 2025. The system already operates 15 hospitals throughout Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco and Polk counties. Currently, while construction details are finalized, BayCare is working to obtain the necessary zoning permits that will be needed for the project.
"As with all our hospitals and services, our mission in Manatee County is to improve the health of all we serve," BayCare President and CEO Tommy Inzina says in a release. "That means when we build this hospital, we will extend to Manatee residents our longstanding tradition of community benefit."
The nonprofit is already present in the county through the home health service it provides called BayCare HomeCare. The service is geared for people recovering from an illness, injury or surgery as well as those who need assistance managing a chronic health condition.
BayCare Medical Group is also set to open an adult primary care center at the end of this year in The Shoppes of Moccasin Wallow in Palmetto.
"At BayCare, we put tremendous resources into keeping people well and out of hospitals," Inzina says. "While hospitals are a critical part of a community's infrastructure, BayCare strives to provide the right care at the right time for patients. Our extraordinary team members connect with people wherever we can support their health care journey."
The new hospital in Manatee County will be the organization’s 17th acute care hospital. A new hospital in Wesley Chapel that’s expected to open next year will be BayCare’s 16th. Currently, the size, costs, economic impact and timeline for the Manatee County hospital are undetermined.
