Baseball fans will be able to carry an Allegiant World Mastercard in their wallets that offers baseball-related benefits.
There’s a new way to step up to the plate and show baseball allegiance. No, it’s not a cap or trading card.
Instead, low-fare airline Allegiant Air, with a large and growing presence in the region, and St. Petersburg-based Minor League Baseball recently announced a new credit card partnership.
The two organizations already were involved in a national partnership, first introduced in July. The co-branded credit card is an extension of that relationship. Now fans of America’s pastime will be able to carry an Allegiant World Mastercard in their wallets that offers baseball-related benefits.
According to a statement, those benefits include points for purchases and no blackout dates for travel, as well as rewards that relate to the cardholders’ minor league team and city of choice.
David Wright, Minor League Baseball chief marketing and commercial officer, tells Coffee Talk the credit card was a good next step for its partnership with Allegiant because it ties back to the vision of Minor League Baseball. “We’re squarely focused on being a dynamic leader in sports and entertainment.” Plus, he says, “It’s something our fans will really value.”
For example, Wright says, if people are Lansing Lugnuts fans, they could have an Allegiant Lugnuts credit card and use the points they earn with the card to receive experiences and benefits with the local club.
Between the two organizations, there are 126 overlapping markets, Wright says. “The overlap is off the charts.” On the Allegiant side, he says, the partnership provides a way to build a hometown airline feel.
Allegiant isn’t the only company to sign on to play with Minor League Baseball. The organization also partners with Bush’s Beans, Tickets.com, Uncle Ray’s potato chips, Echo power tools, FIS, Applegate and ISM Connect.
Fans will be able to start using the Allegiant and Minor League Baseball credit card in 2019, with its expected launch in April.
“Our partnership with Allegiant is long term,” Wright says. “The beautiful thing is we’re just getting started.”
