SARASOTA — Dr. Deepak Nair was elected the 2019-20 president of the Florida Vascular Society.

As president, he will lead an organization that continues to influence change, both statewide and nationally, in the care of patients with venous and arterial disease, a statement says.

Locally, Nair serves as the chief of vascular surgery, chairman of the vascular quality improvement committee and chairman of medical education at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He is also the immediate past president of the Sarasota County Medical Society and now serves on its board of directors, the release states.

At the state level, he is a board member of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. He serves as secretary of the organization's executive committee. Nair is also a clinical associate professor of surgery at Florida State University School of Medicine.

Nationally, he serves as chair of the Section on Outpatient and Office Vascular Care in the Society for Vascular Surgery. He's also on the executive committee of the Intersocietal Accreditation Association’s Vein Center board of directors and is a governor of the American College of Surgeons, the release adds.

His clinical expertise includes all aspects of arterial and venous disease, with a specialty in endovascular minimally invasive treatment of aneurysms.

The Florida Vascular Society was established in 1988. It promotes the science and art of the diagnosis and management of vascular disease and encourages research and education in the field.
