Studio+, one of the leading area architecture and interior design firms, with a specialty in health care, senior living, commercial and education facilities, projects several design trends for 2019 in a recent report. The list includes:
• Sustainable architecture. The issue of sustainability has begun influencing architecture with a greater demand for eco-friendly designs, the firm says. As people become more concerned about environmental impact, they desire buildings and homes that incorporate more earth-friendly products.
Babcock Ranch Neighborhood School, which opened at the start of the 2018-19 school year, is a recent example, earning Green Globes certification, a nationally recognized green rating assessment, guidance and certification program. Like the rest of the new town of Babcock Ranch under development in Lee and Charlotte counties, the new school is powered by solar energy.
• Moving outdoors in. Many designs, the firm says, are utilizing nature as inspiration with warm colors and textures mimicking the outdoors. That trend is gaining popularity in health care architecture, firm officials add.
• User experience. A space must be attractive and functional, but ultimately it’s how people feel in and use the space that matters, according to Studio+. Incorporating fantasy to mitigate anxiety, the interior design of the North Naples Pediatric Emergency Department, for example, included storytelling elements such as custom ambient lighting, furniture shaped as animal characters and interactive video projection.
“As an industry leader, we are noticing these trends and staying ahead of them with our designs,” says Studio+ Project Manager Mark Shannon in a statement.
