Pi Day seems to have grown in popularity in recent years, with some companies offering discounts on products ($3.14 pizzas, anyone?) and others using the celebration of the mathematical constant to host pie-themed events March 14 (3/14).
Sarasota-based real estate tech company PropLogix used the day as an opportunity to be both charitable and collegial — or as collegial as employees can be while smashing whipped cream pies into each other’s faces.
Lindsey Gordon, PropLogix marketing content strategist and video producer, tells Coffee Talk the company had never done a Pi Day event in the past — and employees had never pied each other in the face before — so it seemed like a good opportunity. PropLogix, she says, plans an event for employees each month.
Workers purchased the opportunity to pie fellow employees in the face at a cost of $5 a pie. The Pi Day event led to 115 pie sales along with some donations. The company raised just shy of $900 for No Place Like Home, an organization that helps low-income homeowners clear title issues before natural disasters so they can receive Federal Emergency Management Agency aid.
The Pi Day event was held at PropLogix’s new office, an 18,000-square-foot space in downtown Sarasota’s Main Plaza, a complex co-owned by PropLogix CEO and partner Jesse Biter. Some 110 people work in the office.
All told, 13 PropLogix employees were pied in the face at the event — each one a member of the management team.
