Community foundation promotes CFO from within

New Southwest Florida Community Foundation CFO Luis Leon will oversee the fund's $126 million in assets and grant activities.

FORT MYERS — Luis Leon has been promoted by the Southwest Florida Community Foundation to chief financial officer.

He joined the foundation in 2012 as an accountant, and was named controller in 2014 and then promoted to director of finance in 2017.

Leon is responsible for maintaining the financial integrity of the foundation by ensuring accurate and timely implementation and accounting of the foundation’s finances and investments, according to a statement, He is the primary liaison between the foundation’s finance and audit committees.

In addition to his bachelor’s degree in finance from Florida Gulf Coast University, he earned his master’s in accounting at Florida Atlantic University in 2018. He is also a member of Stellar Technologies’ Client Advisory Board, where he is involved in strategic discussions and beta testing databases to enhance the operations of community foundations.

Founded in 1976, the Southwest Florida Community Foundation works to cultivate regional change for the common good through collective leadership, social innovation and philanthropy to address the community needs in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties. With assets of more than $126 million, it has provided $78.2 million in grants and scholarships to the communities it serves.
