Bloomberg financial terminals are bread and butter to Wall Street traders and portfolio investors worldwide. And now students from several colleges in the region will be able to use them, too.

Sarasota-based financial firm Cumberland Advisors and Cumberland's founder and Chief Investment Officer David Kotok recently donated 12 Bloomberg terminals to the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee. The gift equals about $60,000 and pays for a one-year subscription to the Bloomberg system, according to a statement.

Cumberland Advisors Managing Director and Director of Marketing Sharon Prizant says they use Bloomberg terminals in their office, and they wanted students in the area to have the same kind of access.

“Bloomberg terminals are the gold standard for doing research and finding information that has to do with the financial world,” Prizant tells Coffee Talk. “It's a cutting-edge tool.”

The terminals, which are already installed and ready to use, are housed in a laboratory at the college that will be named for Cumberland and Kotok. The technology will be available to business school students from USF Sarasota-Manatee and students from the other colleges in the Consortium of Colleges on the Creative Coast — New College of Florida, Ringling College of Art and Design, State College of Florida, Florida State University/The Ringling and Eckerd College.

Prizant says representatives from Bloomberg will teach professors how to use the terminals. The professors will then instruct students on how to use the systems. “This is tremendous,” says USF Sarasota-Manatee College of Business Dean James Curran in a statement. “This is going to give our students access to the same information that financial experts around the world use to make major financial decisions.”
