The Manatee YMCA purchased five acres on Rutland Road in Parrish, across the street from the current Parrish YMCA branch, with the intention of building a new branch on the land by 2021.

The nonprofit paid $625,000 for the land, according to a release.

Manatee YMCA CEO Sean Allison says the facility will cost a $6 million to $8 million, funds that will be raised in future programs and initiatives. He says the new Y, which will solve a significant space crunch at the current facility, will retain the atmosphere and community feel of the Parrish School. The school was built in 1924 and is a historical building in Parrish.

“We have been getting creative to provide space for our programs since we opened the Parrish Branch,” Allison says in the statement, “and it's time for us to build a facility to expand our services.”

The complex will be built in three to five years, YMCA officials say.
