TAMPA — Health care company WellCare Health Plans Inc. named Darren Ghanayem senior vice president and chief information officer.

As the top technology leader for WellCare, Ghanayem will be responsible for advancing the company's technology capabilities, a statement says. He will report to CEO Ken Burdick and will be a member of the executive leadership team.

“Our IT capabilities continue to play a critical role in the success of our business,” Burdick says. “Darren is a respected industry leader, and I expect his expertise will expand our technology capabilities to help us drive business results and better serve our provider partners and members.”

Before joining WellCare, Ghanayem spent more than 15 years with Anthem, where he was most recently vice president of business transformation.

Tampa-based WellCare Health Plans Inc. provides government-sponsored managed care services, primarily through Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and Medicare prescription drug plans. The firm serves about 3.8 million members nationwide.
