DADE CITY — Susan Scherer, a nurse and founder of the medical consulting startup RN Cancer Guides, has received a microloan from the Pasco Economic Development Council Inc. and been named the newest associate member of the SMARTstart Dade City Incubator.

Scherer recently relocated her company to an office in Wesley Chapel and joined the SMARTstart Incubator program. Soon after joining, she became aware of the microloan program through the Pasco EDC, and applied for a loan to help expand the business.

RN Cancer Guides, which Scherer founded in mid-2013, helps patients and businesses find oncology nursing services, such as second opinions on diagnoses, treatment plans, medication and more.

Managed by the Pasco Economic Development Council Inc., SMARTstart is the first program of its kind in Pasco County. One of the big goals of the program is to get small businesses together to collaborate and learn from each. As an associate (offsite) member, RN Cancer Guides has 24/7-access to the facility, which includes free Wi-Fi, co-working space, a post office box, and conference and meeting rooms. Associate members can also attend seminars and classes held at SMARTstart, receive one-on-one mentoring and assistance from a SMARTstart intern from Saint Leo University's M.B.A. program.
