NAPLES — Chairman and founder of Ave Maria School of Law Thomas S. Monaghan announced that Kevin Cieply will begin serving as the school's third president and dean beginning July 1.

Cieply is the associate dean of academics and associate professor at John Marshall Law School in Atlanta. He will take over for Euguene R. Milhizer, who will step down at the end of the academic year. Milhizer announced in November he was leaving the position to return to teaching.

“Ave Maria School of Law is dedicated to educating lawyers with the finest professional skills and in the traditions of the Catholic faith," Monaghan said in a news release. "Dean Cieply brings with him a wealth of experience that makes him uniquely qualified to guide, inspire and lead our law school community in our efforts to offer a legal education characterized by the harmony of faith and reason.”

Cieply served in the Army and Wyoming National Guard as a helicopter pilot and a Judge Advocate General Corps (JAG) officer for 22 years. His practice as a JAG officer included
prosecuting courts-martial cases, prosecuting major criminal procurement fraud cases in federal courts as a full-time Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, and serving as the senior legal adviser on all military matters for the Wyoming Army National Guard.

Cieply is admitted to practice law in Colorado, Florida and Wyoming, the Ninth and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Supreme Court.
