Well-known Bradenton CPA and executive Gregory Green has left his firm of more than a decade, Shinn & Co., to go out on his own.

The new firm, also in Bradenton, is Green & Associates CPAs. “I'm at the stage where I want to build a firm from the ground up,” Green says.

Green has worked three decades to get to that stage. The Dallas native first worked at Ernst & Young, where he moved from Texas to West Palm Beach to Tampa and eventually was named partner. He joined Byron Shinn at Shinn & Co. in 2002, and worked his way up to shareholder and partner at that firm. Shinn & Co. is one of the leading locally based CPA firms, with clients in manufacturing, health care and county and city governments.

Some of those clients, says Green, many of the ones he's worked with for a decade, will join him at his new firm. Green has two other employees so far, and plans to hire at least one more early next year.

Green is active in several local organizations, including the Bradenton Downtown Development Authority, the Tampa Bay District Council of the Urban Land Institute and the Gulf Coast CEO Forum. He says launching his own firm is a mix of timing, in that he believes the economy is in rebound mode, and that long-term desire to do it his own way.

He adds that he wants his firm to remain nimble, flexible and pursue “tenacious” client service. “Our clients don't cry wolf,” says Green. “When they need help we understand that, and we will do whatever it takes to meet those needs.”
