The travel industry was one of the first to be rocked by the recession. So companies that specialize in lowering the cost of vacation packages have grown in demand.

Just as Priceline.com and Hotels.com have been a hit with consumers, the Lee County Visitor and Convention Bureau has made plans to implement a similar travel booking procedure on its consumer Web site. The lure of an all-in-one vacation shopping experience, as well as lower prices, will hopefully bring more traffic to the site. And in time, the bureau hopes to bring more visitors to the area.

With cities like Fort Myers and Boca Grande, and islands like Captiva and Sanibel, Lee County has always had strong tourism. Nearly one million visitors were recorded on the bureau's Web site in 2008, and the organization hope to capitalize on this to increase their share of the tourism market. This new booking tool will also help Lee County compete with other travel destinations and increase cooperation with the local industry.

The new online feature will be running by the time of the area's FallFest promotion, which runs from Sept. 1 through Nov. 14. The site will also be remodeled starting in October.
