Stanley elected president-elect

of Hillsborough Bar Association

Allen Dell PA litigator Donald W. Stanley Jr. was recently elected president-elect of the Hillsborough County Bar Association. Stanley, a 1977 graduate of Stetson University College of Law, has been lead trial counsel in plaintiff and defense work over the past 25 years. He devotes much of his practice to construction law, representing general contractors and owners.

ABA committee seeks

executive director

An American Bar Association committee is looking for a successor to Executive Director Robert A. Stein, who resigned late last month. The committee is chaired by Robert J. Grey Jr. of Richmond, Va.

Gonzalez joins

social insurance group

Rafael Gonzalez, a partner at Tampa's Barrs, Williamson, Stolberg, Townsend and Gonzalez PA, recently joined the National Academy of Social Insurance, a group that promotes informed policy making on social insurance.

Membership in the group is by invitation only and is made up of experts in Social Security, Medicare, workers' compensation, unemployment insurance and related social insurance and private employee benefits. Members come from a variety of disciplines, including actuarial science, economics, journalism, law, medicine, political science, public administration and sociology.

Gonzalez, chair of the Florida Bar Practice Management and Development Section, has taught workers' compensation and social security disability law at the University of South Florida and Florida State University.

Carlton Fields PA names

director of development

Thomas A. Grewe, formerly of Boston's Ropes & Gray LLP, was named director of professional development for Carlton Fields PA. Grewes will be in charge of the implementation of the firm's development programs. He's a 1990 graduate of Northeastern Illinois University.

Foley & Lardner receives

CIO 100 award for efficiency

For the fourth time in five years, Foley & Lardner LLP received a CIO 100 award from CIO Magazine for demonstrating "positive business performance by creating an integrated enterprise with technologies and processes that improve efficiency," according to a press release.

"Over the past two years, Foley & Lardner has executed a national growth strategy that requires our attorneys to be able to work and communicate seamlessly regardless of physical location," Ralf Boer, the firm's chairman/CEO, says in the statement.

The Chicago-based firm, which has an office in Tampa, has created technology platforms that enable its employees to work from almost anywhere.

Labor professional speaks

at Tampa HR expo

George Barford, practice group leader of labor and employment law at Carlton Fields, Tampa, spoke at the Aug. 17 HR Tampa Exppo & Legal Update on defending whistleblowers and retaliation lawsuits. Barford is a board certified labor and employment lawyer who represents management.

Fowler White lawyers

named to new posts

Linda Loomis Shelley, a shareholder with Fowler White Boggs Banker PA, was appointed to the newly formed federal Judicial Nominating Commission for Florida. The 56-member commission will recommend nominees for the federal courts and top law enforcement posts in Florida.

Shelley is chair of the firm's government, environmental and land use department. She represents clients before the Florida Legislature and executive branch agencies.

In other news, Joelle Z. Bertozzi joined Fowler White as an associate in the real estate practice group. She's a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Florida College of Law. She previously worked for Hill, Ward & Henderson.

In addition, Fowler White attorney Michael S. Lamont was elected to the board of directors of the Epilepsy Services Foundation. Lamont practices in the firm's securities, financial services and white-collar practice group.

Plus, Tracy Raffles Gunn, a Fowler White shareholder, was reappointed to the executive council of the Appellate Practice and Advocacy Section of the Florida Bar. And attorney Jeffrey M. James was selected to participate in the 2006 class of Tampa Connection, which helps guide professionals into key leadership roles while helping meet Tampa's growing social, health and educational needs.

GrayRobinson attorneys

to speak at pension meeting

Kelley A. Bosecker and Lowell J. Walters, both of GrayRobinson, will speak at the at the October meeting of the Florida Public Pension Trustees Association meeting in St. Augustine. Bosecker, of counsel to the firm, will discuss tax implications to pension plans, and Walters, a Tampa associate, will talk about Social Security.

Bricklemyer Smolker

adds son of founder

K. Clayton Bricklemyer, son of one of the founders of Bricklemyer Smolker & Bolves PA, joined the firm. A graduate of Wake Forest University and the University of Florida, he will concentrate on real estate and property rights.

The Tampa-based firm, with offices in Tallahassee and Longwood, is a general commercial litigation practice that specializes in real estate matters. It was established 11 years ago.
