FORT MYERS — Canadian discount airline WestJet will inaugurate a weekly flight from Fort Myers to the Canadian capital city of Ottawa on Saturday.
The additional flight comes as hoteliers report an increasing number of visitors from Canada and Realtors say a greater number of Canadians are buying residential real estate in Southwest Florida.
The airline will operate the weekly flight on Saturdays between Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers and Ottawa's Macdonald-Cartier International Airport using a 737-700 aircraft.
This will be the first nonstop flight between Fort Myers and Ottawa. WestJet already operates a daily flight between Fort Myers and Toronto, Canada.
The inaugural flight from Ottawa will arrive in Fort Myers at 12:22 p.m. and return to the Canadian city at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday.
