Walter J. “Walt” Scheller, III is the newest president and chief operating officer of Jim Walter Resources, a Walter Energy subsidiary, according to a release.
Scheller replaces George Richmond, who will retire.
Scheller will be responsible for the company's day-to-day underground mining operations, as the former corporate conglomerate continues to increase its focus on the production of coking coal.
The company's new addition brings 30 years of energy experience to his new position. Previously, Scheller has served as a senior vice president at Peabody Energy Corp., as well as vice president at CNX Gas Corp.
The retiring Richmond exits following a 45-year career in the energy industry, a release said.
Walter Energy continues to operate from its Tampa headquarters, but will soon move to Alabama to further increase its focus on coal production.
