SARASOTA — Samsung Telecommunications America LLC is partnering with Sarasota-based Voalte to provide its communication systems on Samsung's smartphones.
Voalte's smartphone communications system allows hospital staff to send and receive text messages, make high-definition voice calls across the hospital communications system and receive critical care alarms.
Samsung described the decision as a move to broaden its offerings in the health care field.
Voalte says it has fine-tuned its communications and alarm application Voalte One to run on the Android mobile-device operating system. Previously, Voalte One was only offered on Apple's iOS devices or BlackBerry phones. Voalte says Samsung was uniquely positioned for hospitals and other health care providers because of its line of LED high-resolution displays and Samsung Galaxy mobile-device products.
Samsung Mobile plans to use the Voalte One system in conjunction with its SAFE-certified smartphones, devices that meet more stringent security criteria, including the Galaxy Note.
“The Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 and the Samsung Galaxy Note are terrific mobile platforms for nursing,” Voalte's Vice President of Innovation Trey Lauderdale says in a press release. They are Wi-Fi ready, durable, yet very lightweight and the touch screens are vivid and responsive.”
Samsung is showcasing Voalte One at the health IT conference and exhibition HIMSS12 this week in Las Vegas.
