GULF COAST — Online publication College Choice published its first ranking of the 50 best regional universities in the South, and a number of schools along the Gulf Coast made the list. College Choice says universities were judged on their academic reputation, financial aid offerings, overall cost and success of graduates in the post-college job market.
Stetson University, which has campus locations in DeLand and Gulfport, ranked fourth. College Choice awarded the school an academic reputation score of 87, an average net price of $20,943, average of financial aid of $26,814 and average starting salary of $33,400.
The University of Tampa was listed 34th. It had an academic reputation score of 65, an average net price of $25,034, average of financial aid of $10,908 and average starting salary of $38,300.
St. Leo University was ranked 40th. The ranking gave it an academic reputation score of 48, an average net price of $17,321, average of financial aid of $14,269 and a average starting salary of $41,500.
The top three schools on the ranking were Rollins College (1) in Winter Park, Mercer University (2) in Macon, Ga., and The Citadel in Charleston, S.C.
College Choice says it derives its data from several public sources, including the National Center for Education Statistics, Payscale.com and U.S. News & World Report.
