Tech star headlines St. Pete talk

ST. PETERSBURG -- Josh Greenberg, co-founder and chief technology officer of Grooveshark, will be the headline speaker at an entrepreneurship event organized by Ad 2 Tampa Bay.

A St. Petersburg native, Greenberg co-founded Grooveshark in 2006, when he was a freshman at the University of Florida. Grooveshark is an ad-supported music search engine that allows users to stream songs for free

On May 9, the company reached its 35 millionth registered user. Earlier this year, online research group Alexa called Grooveshark.com one of the 1,000 most popular sites on the web. The company has 130 employees.

In 2008, Greenberg was a finalist for Businessweek's Best Young Entrepreneurs award; this year, he was named to Forbes' 30 Under 30 list in Music.

Greenberg will be the lead presenter at AdTalks: Launching a Successful Startup, an event beginning at 6 p.m. on Jan. 30 at the World of Beer in downtown St. Petersburg. Additional information is available at Ad 2 Tampa Bay's website.

Ad 2 Tampa Bay is a networking group for local advertising professionals. The local chapter is part of an organization with more than 50,000 members nationwide.
