TAMPA — Wittenberg Weiner Consulting LLC has been selected as a finalist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Chamber Foundation's Hiring Our Heroes award for its effort in hiring military veterans and their families.

Founded by Lauren Weiner, the firm provides project management and other services to government agencies, including the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security, as well as to the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.

The company is among 25 businesses nominated for five national awards for leadership in addressing challenges faced by veterans, transitioning service members and military families in their search for meaningful employment, according to a news release from the U.S. Chamber.

“Wittenberg Weiner Consulting is a tremendous example of an employer that has stepped up not only to hire talented veterans and military spouses but to recognize the sacrifices they have made in service to our nation,” says Kevin Schmiegel, executive director of the Hiring Our Heroes program, in the release.

The 25 employers represent all sectors of the economy, he says. “It is commitment from employers like Wittenberg Weiner Consulting that has helped create a movement and truly make a difference on the issue of veteran and military spouse unemployment.”

“We're delighted,” says Donna Huneycutt, executive vice president, who owns the consulting company with Weiner. The firm also funds a nonprofit organization that promotes military spouse employment, she says. “When an active duty person gets stationed outside the country their spouse moves around with them. It's very hard for the spouse to find work because they're always moving.”

Wittenberg hires staff and consultants with impressive credentials. “Our leadership has senior experience in U.S. Special Forces, the Department of State and USAID, and the White House's Office of Management and Budget,” according to the company's website. “Based on client requirements we are able to tailor a staffing package that can range from former Green Berets and SEALS, to PhD's and federal finance experts.”

Award winners will be announced Nov. 14 in Washington, D.C.
