St. Petersburg Bar Celebrates Holidays

About 175 members of the St. Petersburg Bar Association recently took time to celebrate the holidays at the Mirror Lake Lyceum. This was more than just an opportunity to socialize with fellow members and enjoy good food.

Each year members bid on an assortment of gift baskets, with proceeds earmarked for the Community Law Program Inc., a group of volunteer lawyers who help low-income wage earners with civil law matters. This year, members raised about $2,155 for the program.

The highest single bid of $500 went to the basket donated by Ciarciaglino Coyle & Gell PA. The basket included a charter fishing trip.

In addition, the association also presented its first iBig Oompa Kahunai award. The new award goes to the best food station at the associationis annual Octoberfest fundraiser at the Stetson University College of Law. This year Stetson won the award for its iStetson Spudsi food station.

Stetson Law Dean Darby Dickerson accepted the traveling award on behalf of the school. The prize is a collectable beer stein molded in the shape of a parrot. The law school gets to keep the award until the association picks a new winner next year.
