Women's retailer Chico's FAS continues to rack up recognition for championing women executives.
Late last year it was named a 2020 Women on Boards company, for having 20% or more of its board seats held by women. In 2017 Chico's also ranked No. 1 in a report from financial website 24/7 Wall Street on companies with the best executive female representation. Chico's executives include President and CEO Shelley Broader; Chico's brand President Diane Ellis; Soma brand President Mary van Praag; White House Black Market brand President David Pastrana; and general counsel and Executive Vice President Kristin Oliver.
The latest recognition for the company, with $2.47 billion in 2016 revenues, comes from the National Association for Female Executives, in its 2018 Top 70 Companies for Women report. Fort Myers-based Chico's is a Top 10 company in the NAFE report, joining corporate behemoths such as Proctor & Gamble, Marriott International and Accenture on the top of the list. This is the first time Chico's made the list.
“Founded and led by women, Chico's FAS is the rare retailer whose executive branches almost mirror the level of women in its workforce — 96% of employees and 91% of corporate executives,” the report states.
The organization, for its report, seeks companies with female representation at all levels, but especially the corporate officer and profit-and-loss leadership ranks. It also tracks how many employees have access to programs and policies that promote women advancement and how many employees take advantage of them, plus how companies train managers to help women advance. A company must have at least two women on its board of directors and at least 1,000 U.S. employees to be on the list. (Chico's currently has five women directors.)
“The annual NAFE scrutiny of women's progress at American companies provides a dependable barometer for measuring the movement of women into top leadership positions in the private sector,” says NAFE president Betty Spence in a statement. “With women at only 29% of boards and 30% of C-suite members, NAFE continues to work with our top companies to speed women's headway.”
