The Tampa Bay area auto repair industry is about to get a jolt from one of the largest companies in the industry, Meineke Car Care Centers.

The Charlotte, N.C.-based auto repair franchise, with nearly 1,000 stores in 48 states and seven countries, plans to open 22 new locations in the Tampa region in the next five years. The new stores, in addition to opportunities for franchisees, will also deliver 88-154 new auto body technician jobs for the region, according to a statement. Meineke currently has eight locations from Tampa through Bradenton.

“After conducting extensive research, we have found that there is great growth potential and heavy demand for our services in Tampa,” Meineke Vice President of Franchise Development Ed Pearson says in the statement.

Meineke seeks single and multi-unit franchisees to operate the new locations. The company is offering financing and incentive programs for new franchisees, including discounted license fees and reduced royalty rates for multiple stores.

Meineke, which has transformed from a specialty in mufflers to handling tires, brake repairs, tune-ups, alignments and routine maintenance, hopes its timing fits the increased demand. The global auto repair and maintenance services market, say company officials, is projected to exceed $750 billion in the coming decade.
