SARASOTA - Ian Black Real Estate plans to move its corporate headquarters to Kane Plaza in downtown Sarasota in early 2016.

In moving to the new offices, about 4,000 square feet, the prominent Sarasota-based commercial real estate brokerage will be leaving the Rosemary District, its longtime home. Ian Black Real Estate managing member Ian Black is an outspoken proponent for the resurgence of Rosemary, just north of downtown Sarasota.

The new offices, on the sixth floor of the Kane Plaza, are about 1,000 square feet bigger than the old space. “This is a wonderful opportunity to also expand our offices as a direct response to our firm's growth,” Black says in a press release. “In our current building, we don't have the capacity to hire any additional agents...”

Ian Black Real Estate was recently chosen to handle management and leasing for the Kane Plaza, a 10-story office building at 1 S. School Ave. in downtown Sarasota. Ian Black, Steve Horn and Melissa Harris are the leasing agents for the plaza, while Marci Marsh and Jodi Whitworth are the property managers.

A fund of Bonita Springs-based TerraCap Management purchased the 84,296-square-foot Kane Plaza in early 2014 for $11.5 million. The property currently has about 16,000 square feet available for lease.

The building currently occupied by Ian Black Real Estate on Central Avenue is available for lease. Ian Black has owned that building since 2001, according to Sarasota County property records.

Ian Black Real Estate is the second well-known realty firm that recently announced a move. Sarasota-based Michael Saunders & Co. plans to relocate its downtown Sarasota sales offices to the 13-story Ellis Building at 1605 Main Street.
