BRADENTON — One of the largest construction projects of the past year in the Bradenton area is underway, with the groundbreaking of Coastal Orthopedics future headquarters.

The 88,000-square-foot, two-story complex and medical facility will house clinical services, an ambulatory surgery center, physical therapy department, administrative offices and diagnostic imaging services, including digital x-rays and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), among other services, according to a statement. The concrete foundation will be poured in the coming weeks, the release adds, and the project is expected to be completed in spring 2022. A ceremonial groundbreaking was held March 9.

Coastal Orthopedics is a full-service provider of comprehensive orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, spine care, pain management and physical therapy services. “Over the many years our team has served the community, Coastal Orthopedics has grown into a subspecialized group with offices all around the county,” board president and sports medicine specialist Dr. Arthur Valadie says. “About three years ago, we realized that we were busting at the seams and decided this was the right move for the practice. Our mission remains to take great care of our community and provide top-notch orthopedic care and this building is going to do that.”

The complex is on 17-acre parcel on State Road 64, just east of Interstate 75. Coastal has had a large presence in east Manatee County for 16 years. “We are experiencing some major growth at Coastal Orthopedics, and it’s certainly an exciting time,” Coastal  CEO Paige LeMay says in the statement. “We continually strive for the best customer experience and the future headquarters plus our many other locations will make it easier for our patients who come from throughout the region to follow up with our top-notch physicians.”

Coastal Orthopedics, founded in 1973 and now with nearly 300 employees, has four other Manatee County locations. Some 150 to 200 employees will be based out of the new facility.
