FORT MYERS — Revenue per available room at hotels in Lee County rose 7.5% in July compared with July 2011, buoyed by stronger occupancy rates.

Revenue per available room, an important measure of hotel financial performance that is a function of average daily rate and occupancy, rose to $71.69 in July from $66.69 in July 2011, according to the Lee County Visitor and Convention Bureau.

Revenues benefited from a 6.2% increase in the average occupancy rate to 62.1% in July compared with the same month one year ago. Over the same period, however, the average daily rate rose just 1.3% to $115.54.

Hoteliers' positive forecasts in July based on reservations for the next three months were about the same as they were in July 2011, with 44% reporting that reservations are up, 35% reporting they are the same and 18% reporting they're down.
