FORT MYERS — Builders pulled 52 permits for new single-family home construction in unincorporated Lee County in the month of May. That's the highest number of permit pulls since June 2008, when 56 were issued, according to county officials.
The residential construction permits represent $10 million in new projects, the county estimates. Additionally, seven permits were issued for commercial construction, representing $1 million in new work.
Two permits were issued for multi-family construction as well, the county says in a statement.
May's residential permit total is up 73% over the month, and 27% higher than in May 2010. According to county officials, the increase is the result of “large builders completing existing subdivisions.”
Development in unincorporated Lee County is overseen by Lee County Community Development.
