TAMPA — University of South Florida Foundation leader Joel Momberg plans to retire at the end of October after more than a decade of coordinating USF’s fundraising activities and overseeing operations of the USF alumni association.

As senior vice president and CEO of the foundation, Momberg led the USF: Unstoppable Campaign, which concluded in July 2018 — almost a year ahead of schedule — after raising more than $1.1 billion for the university. According to a press release, USF is one of only three public universities founded since 1956 to raise $1 billion in a single campaign, joining the University of California San Diego and the University of California Irvine.

“Joel Momberg is a true relationship builder,” USF System President Judy Genshaft states in the release. “He has made an incredible impact on the University of South Florida System because of his ability to bring people together and inspire optimism for the future. We owe him a great deal of gratitude for all that he has accomplished. Because of Joel, we are unstoppable.”

Under Momberg’s leadership, the release states, the foundation’s endowment grew to exceed $480 million. Prior to joining USF, Momberg worked for All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg for nearly three decades, most recently serving as executive vice president of the ACH Foundation.

“Throughout my tenure at USF, there are so many great people that I would like to thank for making such a tremendous impact on my life: the many friends and supporters whose passion and generosity have created a legacy of philanthropy for our university; my colleagues at USF who have been incredible partners throughout the years; and, of course, the staff and administration at the foundation,” Momberg states in the release. “The best you will find in any institution.”
