ST. PETERSBURG — Humana Inc. announced this week that it would add 300 additional workers to its Humana Cares subsidiary operation in St. Petersburg, on top of an additional 200 new hires announced less than a month ago.

The additions announced last month will work from Humana's national Medicare service operations center in Tampa. In contrast, Humana Cares employs registered nurses, social workers, and community health educators, and is headquartered in St. Petersburg.

Humana Cares will employ 1,300 employees by the end of the year, a statement says. Across Tampa Bay, Humana will employ 2,700 workers; throughout Florida, the company has more than 5,000 employees.

Jean Bisio is the president of Humana Cares. The firm's corporate parent is based in Louisville, Ky.
