TAMPA — Hillsborough County commissioners will sponsor the installation and maintenance of 10 electric vehicle charging stations. The county will also pay for the electricity drawn by users, a release says.

Each station will cost the county $550 in startup fees, plus $1,000 for installation and materials. The stations are part of a federal program called Project Get Ready, which is being funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.

The charging stations will be installed at the following locations:

• The County's Pierce Street Parking Garage, 319 N. Pierce St. (2 stations)

• St. Pete Times Forum, 401 Channelside Drive (2 stations)

• Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County, 3629 Queen Palm Drive

• Jimmie B. Keel Regional Library, 2902 W. Bearss Ave.

• Jan Kaminis Platt Regional Library, 3910 S. Manhattan Ave.

• Brandon Regional Library, 619 Vondenburg Road

• Town 'N County Commons, 7606 Paula Drive

• Hillsborough Community College, 4001 W. Tampa Bay Blvd.

The sponsorship is a pilot program, set to expire in January 2014.
