Kantor physician attends
Epi-LASIK conference
Robert L. Kantor, president of the Sarasota-based Kantor Eye Institute & Laser Center recently returned from an international Epi-LASIK conference in Crete. He was one of four doctors from the United States invited to attend the conference and meet with Dr. Ionnis Pallikaris, the doctor who created the LASIK and Epi-LASIK procedures. Epi-LASIK is a no-cut procedure which offers greater safety when compared to LASIK.
Teltronics upgrading
NYC education system
Teltronics, a Sarasota-based communications provider, will supply and install new 20-20 IP PBXs as part of a modernization program of the New York City Department of Education.
The systems will replace existing first-generation systems and will be used primarily for voice communications in the school system.
MCC business club
places fifth in competition
Manatee Community College's Phi Beta Lambda business club finished fifth in a national business decision-making competition held June 29 through July 2 in Orlando.
MCC's team was the only community college to place in the top 10. Other winners were four-year colleges or universities. Winning MCC PBL team members included Dawn Smith, Heather McDonald and Sovanna Sok.

re-accreditation
Manatee Community College has received notification from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools that the institution has received re-accreditation for 10 years with no conditions or restrictions. This is the highest possible rating an educational institution can achieve from the regional accrediting body. Accreditation, among other benefits, makes MCC eligible for more than $22 million worth of financial aid that is disbursed annually to roughly half of MCC's students.

• Sarasota-based Florida Ever-Glides, the first guided Segway? Human Transporter tour company in the country, is expanding its business to Miami's South Beach.
