Florida's court system managed to process 139,615 foreclosure filings between July 2010 and February 2011 — but 322,724 cases remain on the backlog, court records show.
Those totals represent a 30% reduction to the filing log statewide. Gulf Coast counties saw an equivalent percentage reduction in outstanding cases, from 118,704 cases down to 83,126.
Of the four circuit courts that serve Florida's Gulf Coast, the 20th circuit — representing Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, and Lee counties — was the most efficient. Its backlog went down from 32,453 cases to just 14,430, a 56% reduction.
The sixth circuit (Pasco, Pinellas) reduced its backlog by 16%; the 12th (DeSoto, Manatee, Sarasota) saw a 28% reduction; and the 13th (Hillsborough) cut its backlog down by 19%.
