FORT MYERS — Thomas Daugherty, a well-known commercial real estate broker based in Fort Myers, was sentenced to two years in federal prison for tax evasion this week.

In January, Daugherty pleaded guilty to attempting to evade $1.6 million in federal income tax between 1998 and 2005. He now owes $2.1 million in restitution payments.

According to the U.S. Attorney from the Middle District of Florida, Daugherty “placed real properties in the names of others,” and then used income from those sales to purchase cashier's checks, which he used to pay for his living expenses.

Last year, Daugherty represented Wen Wu and Maylene Kiang Wu in the purchase of 49.6 acres at the northwest corner of Ben C. Pratt/Six Mile Cypress Parkway and Penzance Boulevard for $1.8 million.
