Officials from Manatee and Sarasota counties have begun touting plans for a $14.4 million economic development hub that they say could help attract jobs to the region.

The facility, which would be known as the Design and Economic Acceleration Lab (DEAL), would initially occupy 72,000 square feet of space on University Parkway in Manatee County. In the future, the plan's sponsors say the facility could take advantage of roughly 300 acres of nearby available real estate.

While funding details are yet to be laid out, the development plan does already have the full backing of prominent development officials from both counties. At a press conference on Tuesday, EDC presidents David Sessions and Beth Bender represented the combined efforts of Sarasota and Manatee respectively by approaching the podium together.
