Collier housing starts rise

Collier County reported 199 housing starts in the third quarter of 2010, up from 155 in the prior quarter, and the highest number of starts since the first quarter of 2008.

At the same time, the county's inventory of vacant finished homes also rose, according to Metrostudy, from 285 to 307.

In Lee County, housing starts fell from 290 in the year's second quarter to 212 in the third. Total vacant finished homes decreased from 291 to 226, and total new home inventory is at 642, the county's lowest level since 1993.
