TAMPA -- Parsons, a Pasadena, Calif.-based construction firm, was selected to provide roadway and bridge design services for the widening of the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway, a release says.

Construction on the Expressway will begin later this year.

In September, Granite Construction Inc. — also headquartered in California -- won the $64 million contract offered by the Florida Department of Transportation for the widening job.

The project will expand a 1.5-mile stretch of the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway in Tampa from four to six lanes. The stretch of road being worked on begins at Morgan Street, and ends at 20th Street — roughly between the Ikea Tampa store and the St. Pete Times Forum.
