Algae fuel company Algenol is the third-hottest company in the field of bioenergy.
So says Biofuels Digest, which with 600,000 readers is the most widely read daily news service covering the industry. The annual rankings of the top 50 companies come from professionals in the field and subscribers of the news service.
Algenol is based in Bonita Springs. The company is developing fuels from algae at a refinery plant in South Lee County.
Algenol ranked third behind Skokie, Ill.-based LanzaTech and Brazil-based GranBio. Others on the list include industrial giants such as DuPont, ADM and Cargill.
Thirty-five of the 50 companies in the list are U.S.-based and 26 are involved in cellulosic biofuels development.
