Frontier Airlines will offer direct flights from Tampa International Airport to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, three times per week beginning May 4, while Alaska Airlines will begin nonstop daily service from TIA to San Diego, California, as of Oct. 5.
According to a news release, TIA offered direct flights to San Diego until September 2021, but now it’s the airport’s largest unserved nonstop market in terms of demand. The new route will offer flights without connections, and it complements Alaska Airlines’ other nonstop routes to West Coast destinations, including Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
"Tampa International Airport is proud to work with our airline partners to best serve travelers headed to our most popular destinations,” TIA CEO Joe Lopano states in the release. “Hundreds of passengers each day fly between TIA and San Diego, so this new nonstop route by Alaska Airlines offers a welcome daily option without requiring a connection.”
Frontier Airlines’ flights to Aguadilla, meanwhile, will be TIA’s first scheduled nonstop service between Tampa and the town on Puerto Rico's west coast. Frontier already offered daily nonstop service to San Juan.
“Frontier’s new nonstop service to Aguadilla will help serve both Puerto Rico and the Tampa Bay region’s extensive community with ties to the island, which also sees hundreds of passengers traveling in each direction every day,” Lopano states in the release.
