The Tampa Yankees, minor league affiliate team to Major League Baseball's New York Yankees, might soon be on the move.

In a prepared statement, the Yankees announced today that the team is engaged in “very preliminary discussions regarding the possibility of a partial sale of their Single-A Tampa minor league affiliate to a potential group of Orange County, Fla., investors.”

Those investors will make an announcement tomorrow, the team said. Officials also stated that the Yankees' spring training activities would not be affected.

The Yankees have 15 years remaining on their lease at Steinbrenner Field.

Orlando represents one of the nation's largest remaining metro areas without an MLB-affiliated baseball team. Within the Tampa Bay area, the Yankees' minor league team competes with the Clearwater Threshers, an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
