A new survey by real estate research firm CoreNet Global finds that roughly half of U.S. office workers plan to continue to work from home once COVID-19 is brought fully under control.
The Atlanta-based firm says office workers intend to spend “roughly half of the work week at the office and the remaining time either in a home office, remote location or co-working space.”
As such, 54% of the more than 200 respondents to the survey say they plan to shrink their overall office footprint within the next two years — though company offices will remain vital for collaboration and teamwork.
Thirty one percent of participants say they will reduce their office space by between 10% and 30%, while 14% project a decrease of greater than 30%.
Conversely, 18% of the companies surveyed in February say they plan to increase the amount of office space occupied by the close of 2023.
In all, CoreNet is comprised of more than 11,000 real estate executives with large corporations in 50 countries.
