Whitney National Bank is adding a branch location in South Tampa in an unusual way — it's actually building one.
The new building, planned for the intersection of South Dale Mabry Highway and San Rafael Street, is scheduled to be completed in December.
Due to consolidation in the industry, almost all new bank branches on the Gulf Coast are in the buildings of former bank branches.
The new location will give the New Orleans-based bank 18 locations throughout Pasco, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Manatee, and Sarasota counties. Whitney has been doing business in the region since 2006.
Whitney National Bank is a subsidiary of Whitney Holding Corp. (symbol: WTNY), which lost $62 million in 2009.
