TAMPA — Tampa Bay WaVE, a nonprofit that helps entrepreneurs turn ideas into technology ventures, is accepting applications for its FirstWaVE Accelerator program.

Applications must be submitted by Feb. 1. The inaugural FirstWaVE class will be announced Feb. 8. Applicants who are accepted into the program will be required to attend a full-day Tech Venture Bootcamp Feb. 14, according to a release.

In September, a regional partnership led by Tampa Bay WaVE and the University of South Florida received a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce to support early-stage technology ventures. The grant proceeds will be used to help launch 80 Florida-based technology startups and create hundreds of high-wage jobs through the creation of the FirstWaVE Accelerator and the FirstWaVE Venture Center.

“Tampa Bay WaVE has already helped launch several technology startups but to finally be positioned to formally launch the FirstWaVE Accelerator and welcome our first class of entrepreneurs is extremely rewarding,” says Linda Olson, founder of Tampa Bay WaVE.

The accelerator will offer a variety of training approaches. Local entrepreneurs and business executives will lead bootcamps and workshops. Clients will be provided with mentors and opportunities to meet with investors. In addition, Tampa Bay WavE will provide co-working or office space in the First WaVE Venture Center located in Rivergate Tower, in downtown Tampa.

There is no fee to apply. Finalists will be asked to attend a live pitch event with the FirstWaVE Accelerator vetting committee on Feb. 7 or 8.

Applications for the next accelerator program will be taken in March.
