SARASOTA — The Sarasota Convention & Visitors Bureau changed its name to Visit Sarasota County.

The name change will help non-locals recognize the agency serves the entire county, officials said. Visit Sarasota County is a sales and marketing organization that's contracted by Sarasota County to promote tourism growth.

“Visit Sarasota County will allow us to better partner with Sarasota County businesses,” Visit Sarasota County Board Chairwoman Susan Danis said in a release. “It will eliminate local confusion that the organization only deals with large businesses when in fact, small companies and nonprofits are the backbone of the local tourism industry.”

Visit Sarasota County President Virginia Haley adds that the new name instantly identifies the organization's industry and business and ranks high in searches for Florida attractions, events and tourism businesses. Plus, says Haley, in the social media world, three words are easier on Twitter than five.
