Even with the potential impact from COVID-19 on new development projects along the Gulf Coast, the University of South Florida is moving ahead with a new $42 million research and office project in Tampa.
The three-story building, which is slated for completion in the fall of 2021, will contain laboratory, office and ground-floor retail space totaling 120,000 square feet.
The new building in the USF Research Park, which will be constructed by Skanska US from a Gensler design, will expand the capacity of the park by 30%.
“We look forward to delivering a project that will help the university to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and the discovery of new technologies that will have a positive impact on our community,” says Michael C. Brown, a Skanska executive vice president and general manager of its Florida operations.
Skanska US, a subsidiary of a Swedish company with roughly $20 billion in annual revenue, also constructed the recently completed $156 million Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Institute for USF that is part of the Water Street Tampa project.
