TAMPA — The University of South Florida appointed John Long as its newest chief operating officer, according to a statement from university president Judy Genshaft.
Long, who graduated from USF in 1982, retired from the Air Force earlier this month. He had been serving as Mission Support Group Commander for the 11th Wing at Andrews Air Force Base, a position he had held since 2009.
In his new role, Long will play a key role in managing the university's human resources, infrastructure, security and business operations, a statement says.
The University of South Florida's annual budget is $1.5 billion. Its four campuses serve 47,000 students in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota and Lakeland.
