TAMPA -- The board of directors at Tampa International Airport approved a $50,000 raise for CEO Joseph Lopano, increasing his total compensation to $355,000.

Lopano's raise was approved by a 3-2 margin, with Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and County Commissioner Victor Crist voting against the increase.

Buckhorn and Crist are the board's only elected officials. Chairman Steven Burton is managing partner at Broad and Cassel; Vice-Chairman Robert Watkins runs an eponymous accounting firm; and Dr. Joseph Diaco operates a surgery practice. All three were appointed to the board by various Florida governors.

Tampa International Airport is hoping to increase international traffic this year. Its marketing budget for the 2012 fiscal year was nearly doubled, to roughly $700,000 (see Prediction #11).
