Two new products from an area company are targeted toward specific audiences.

Venice-based drinkware manufacturer Tervis recently introduced a water bottle in honor of the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Tervis says 100% of the net proceeds from the sale of the water bottle will benefit the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Victims’ Fund.

Harper Bean, Tervis’ senior director of ecommerce and marketing, tells Coffee Talk, “As a Florida company, we wanted to do something to support the Stoneman Douglas Victims’ Fund.”

One of Tervis’ in-house artists, Rusty Morris, developed a logo in support of the school, and Bean says it was used on t-shirts that some students wore on their first day back to school at Marjory Stoneman Douglas. The logo Morris designed was also used on the Tervis water bottle. “He brought the idea to leadership, and of course, it was instantly approved,” Bean says.

The water bottle is available on the Tervis website, in Tervis stores and through the company’s retail partners.

This isn’t the first time Tervis has created a product in response to a tragedy or national event. The company created a design last year to support hurricane relief after hurricanes hit Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico. “We do try to support in any way we can when there is a tragedy, especially in our own backyard,” Bean says.

Tervis’ other new product heads in a different direction: a beer mug. It’s the first time the company has sold a beer mug — a product requested by customers. Tervis has a limited edition design of the mug that allows customers to play beer pong by scanning it and using an app to play with augmented reality. “We definitely want to give our customers what they’re looking for and asking for,” Bean says.

During the 2017 holiday season, Tervis launched designs that were its first augmented reality products. A gingerbread man design and a Christmas tree design allowed customers to see the gingerbread man eating gingerbread houses and the Christmas tree dancing to music. Bean says the products were two of its top-sellers during the season.

But the beer mug, Bean says, is the first experience where customers can interact with the product. Says Bean: “We will definitely have more augmented reality experiences coming soon.”
