When you rely on economists for economic projections, you're betting on massive trends. GDP. Unemployment rates. Inventories.
But it helps to talk to business owners, too — especially when those executives work in the employment industry.
Frank Crum of FrankCrum, a professional employer organization, has noticed an uptick in temporary hiring. And after decades of experience with booms and busts, he says that kind of information bodes well for the near term.
Crum's own business is moving into 2010 with an aggressive strategy, expanding its market reach and increasing its advertising. In fact, hockey fans may have noticed Crum's newest signage at recent Tampa Bay Lightning games.
Crum says he's optimistic about the economy going forward, and disagreed with what Coffee Talk has been hearing for the past several weeks about 2010 looking a lot like 2009.
If temporary hiring trends continue, many local businesses might reevaluate their most recent outlooks.
